Bob Kaplitz

Bob KaplitzBob Kaplitz is a Senior Station Strategist of Audience Research & Development, LLC, leading the development of branding strategies and marketing campaigns for TV stations, which he’s done successfully for 28 years.  They include WFAA-TV’s (Channel 8) Spirit of Texas, one of the longest lasting campaigns in broadcasting. 

Bob also creates strategies for video podcasts for professionals and corporations including the American Marketing Association.  And as adjunct professor at the University of Dallas Graduate School of Management, he teaches interactive marketing, international advertising as well as advertising and marketing communications to MBA students.  He’s been recognized by the Dean of the business school for Excellence in Teaching.
 
Bob has speaks on the subject of interactive marketing, branding, marketing, and throughout the U.S. and abroad to groups including Marketing Focus North America, Business Marketing Association, American Marketing Association,  National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, the National Association of Broadcasters, the National Press Photographers Association, and to corporate executives and boards.
 
Bob's undergraduate studies in psychology and Masters degree from Syracuse University's prestigious Newhouse School of Communications focused on media and advertising.  He’s certified as a process leader in innovation by the global company Synectics and studied at the Center for Creative Leadership.

He interned with Dan Rather, has covered a variety of people ranging from Janis Joplin to Janet Reno, covered Miami Vice — the real thing, reported on organized crime for the CBS Evening News with Walter Cronkite and CBS Radio, and was selected as Best TV Investigative Reporter in North America.  He has also written for publications including Broadcasting Magazine, the Dallas Morning News, and several Web sites.  His coverage of a Miami trial was at the center of a historic U.S. Supreme Court ruling opening courtrooms to cameras — as in the O.J. Simpson trial.

 

Courtney Velek

Courtney Velek serves as the Marketing Manager for Money Management International Inc, the largest, nonprofit full service credit counseling agency in the country.  Courtney started with MMI in October 2005, and is responsible for all corporate and product marketing programs including interactive marketing and advertising efforts.  At MMI, Courtney has worked on award winning microsites, including Regiftable.com which won the Ad:Tech award for Best Word of Mouth Marketing, and was an AMA Crystal Awards finalist in two categories in 2007.  This year, Courtney and the Marketing team at MMI are launching FinancialLiteracyMonth.com. 

Previously, Courtney worked as a Senior Media Planner at Fogarty Klein Monroe for two years where she worked on the Daisy Sour Cream, Success Rice, Waste Management, Texas Children’s Hospital, DriveTime, and Mission Tortilla accounts. Prior to her work at FKM, Courtney worked in advertising sales for Flying Magazine in Dallas.  Courtney attended Stephen F. Austin State University and graduated Magna Cum Laude with a BA in Marketing.

Since June of last year, Courtney has served as the programs chair for the Houston Interactive Marketing Association (HiMA).  In October 2007, Courtney, along with several dedicated volunteers, launched the inaugural Interactive Strategies '07 conference - a half-day event that attracted 200+ Houston-area marketers.

In her spare time, Courtney works as an Independent Demonstrator for Uppercase Living, and enjoys networking, cooking, working out (yes, I actually enjoy working out), and relaxing.

 

Patricia Alvey

Patricia AlveyPatricia Alvey, Distinguished Chair and Director, Temerlin Advertising Institute, Southern Methodist University.

Dr. Alvey joined the Temerlin Advertising Institute in Fall 2002. Most recently she was executive director of the internationally renowned VCU Adcenter, an elite two-year graduate advertising program. Prior to joining VCU, she was head of the Texas Creative Advertising Program at the University of Texas at Austin.

She received a B.F.A. in Studio Art from Murray State University in Kentucky, and her Ph.D. from the University of Texas at Austin. Dr. Alvey's success in the field of advertising goes back well beyond her award-winning guidance of university creative programs, to work in traditional and digital design and art direction. She has worked in the educational, fine art and advertising industries and has designed, coordinated and implemented hundreds of educational and fine art exhibitions, posters, catalogs, brochures, brand identity programs, and promotional campaigns for clients such as: Lady Bird Johnson's Wildflower Center, The Texas Department of Tourism, The March of Dimes, The Texas Capital Preservation Campaign, The University of Texas at Austin, TVA's Land Between the Lakes, The National Scouting Museum.

Dr. Alvey has a special interest in improving creative communications for nonprofits. Her work on behalf of the Texas Creative Program and the March of Dimes garnered silver and bronze Summit International Design Awards. Other awards in both academia and industry include the Research Fellow, American Academy of Advertising, Professor of the Year, NISSAN Advertising Competition, Shell Corporation Research Grant Recipient and Phi Kappa Phi Academic Honor Society.

 

Shawna Landers

Shawna LandersShawna Landers is the Director of Marketing for MapQuest and is the lead marketing strategist for the company’s three businesses: MapQuest.com, MapQuest Wireless and MapQuest Platform Services --  the #1 mapping website.  She directs overall efforts for brand marketing, search engine marketing, PR, promotions, trade shows, product and trade marketing and research.

Prior to joining MapQuest in 2006, Shawna led online marketing for Budget Truck Rental where she managed SEM/SEO programs, affiliate efforts and online media campaigns.  She also ran online marketing programs for Western Union -- where she was responsible for global integrated e-campaigns involving creative services, strategic planning, partnerships and alliances and media strategy.  She has also held marketing management positions within the food manufacturing, food distribution and banking industries.

Tim Hand is West Coast Director for Advertising and Business Development for Kelley Blue Book.

His responsibilities include managing the West Coast KBB sales team, creating and selling advertising and leads proposals for West Coast OEM clients and their advertising agencies. He works with companies such as Toyota Motor Sales, Nissan North America, American Honda and others.

He has a sales background in many forms of media, including interactive, (five years with KBB), magazines (Time Inc.), and newspapers (Los Angeles Times).  He is co-founder and past Chair of ThinkLA Interactive, and has been actively involved with the Los Angeles advertising community for over 15 years. He is a graduate of San Diego State University, with a BS degree in Business Administration, Marketing.

 

Denice Hasty

Denice HastyAs leader of att.com consumer acquisition and online marketing, Ms. Hasty oversees AT&T's Consumer internet activities, including sales strategy, interactive marketing/advertising, customer experience and channel implementation for numerous AT&T products including voice, broadband, video and U-verse IPTV. Those responsibilities span multiple AT&T properties and extend to thousands of web sites where AT&T has a presence in online display, co-marketing or affiliate partners, organic or paid search marketing.

During her time at AT&T, Denice has held several positions including CRM and online strategy for SBC, Marketing Communications and Alternate Retail Channel Development. Her responsibilities also included managing over a dozen multi-lingual sites for Sterling Commerce's global web operations where her team was awarded WMA's Best Diversified Business website award. She was also responsible for several groundbreaking initiatives during her 9 years with the company, including launching SBC's first opt-in email marketing program, first new service ordering tool, AT&T first green marketing campaign for eBill in partnership with the National Arbor Day Foundation, first web affiliate network and AT&T's best in class bundle configuration platform.

Over the last couple of years, Denice co-led the team and sponsored the business strategy and plan that successfully remade att.com into the most satisfying web experience in the telecommunications industry (Comscore).

This was followed by a stint in the front office with the Chicago Bulls and then the Chicago Bears. This opportunity allowed him to enter the agency world, beginning in an office for Busch Creative Services (Anheuser-Busch) and then on to The GEM Group, one of the largest sports and entertainment agencies in the world.

This was followed by providing business development guidance for one the country’s largest direct marketing firms, SourceLink. He is currently with LBi where he is responsible for the growth and leadership of the client services teams as well as providing oversight related to all agency operations.

Colleen Aranda

Colleen Aranda is currently Manager, Interactive Advertising at Continental Airlines. Colleen Aranda joined Continental Airlines in 1997 and since then has held various positions in the areas of Distribution Planning, Finance and Brand Marketing.

She has experience with numerous aspects of ecommerce and online marketing including overseeing in-house creative operations, developing sweepstakes and promotions, and managing e-mail marketing programs.

In her current role she oversees global online advertising and search initiatives, overseeing direct response and branding campaigns targeting various segments in the U.S. and other countries.
