Denton Parks and Rec is hiring to fill a position that serves to promote parks and rec and a water park. 

We strategically plan and creatively design in-house for a range that is insanely memberships, rec centers, mud volleyball, sports leagues, water park, outdoor rec, and WAY MORE. 

We need an experienced creative thinker who is familiar with Adobe CS, Constant Contact, and social media marketing. Parks and rec experience is not required, nor is having seen the show :)

In a nutshell...supports department marketing communications efforts and responsible for editing, creating, and managing copy in a wide range of print and digital applications that singularly promote the growth initiatives and marketing plan for both the Parks and Recreation Department (PARD) and the Water Works Park brands, as well as programs and services in all areas of business through websites, emails, direct mail, advertising, custom publications, social media, and other forms of design and delivery

Essential Functions

  • Develop copy and manage weekly/monthly submissions for the Civic Center marquee, Denton Times PARD column, email newsletters, Denton Citizen Connection, Facebook, Twitter, and other digital media and print publications.
  • Utilize the content management system (CMS) to publish, edit, and modify content on the PARD website
  • Develop online surveys to assist PARD efforts to increase retention and improve customer service in all areas of business
  • Maintain post PLAY! Guide deployment necessities that include web page updates, linking the interactive PLAY! Guide to online registration, creating or updating online calendars, and providing new content to external websites such as DFW Child, RunOn!, RunTex, and more
  • Participate in brainstorming new marketing campaigns and assist with the development of short term and long term marketing strategies for PARD and Water Works Park
  • Oversee department wide compliance of the City's style guide and serves as a member on the City's communications team
  • Serve as a subject matter expert in copy and editing as it pertains to PARD marketing communications and provides guidance to staff
  • Develop on-going working and professional relationships with reporters, advertisers, and other professionals within the marketing and public relations community
  • Works with DTV/PIO/PCO and other departments to assist with communications efforts as needed, and serves as liaison for PARD as needed
  • Coordinates with the Parks Foundation to assist with marketing and social media
  • Oversees and develops PARD social media posts and ads to promote classes, programs, and facilities while maintaining knowledge of new tactics, audiences, and overall strategy
  • Assist in creating and implementing the department marketing and communications plan promoting the mission, programs, events, and brand.
  • Works closely with staff to communicate to customers on social media
  • Provide design support to Marketing Administrator for all programs, services and initiatives (newsletter design and layout, print materials, printing/modification/re-design of existing pieces)
  • Provide proactive problem solving to help ensure branding is maintained and consistent
  • Develop original concepts including emails, print material, web, and social media
  • Photographs events and programs for PARD and Parks Foundation

Additional Duties
Performs other duties as assigned as well as works evenings, weekends and holidays as needed

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in communications, advertising, graphic design, or creative writing
  • Two (2) years relative experience working in a public sector or nonprofit environment with an impressive portfolio


  • High School Diploma or GED equivalency
  • Four (4) years relative experience working in a public sector or nonprofit environment with an impressive portfolio


  • Minimum one (1) year using a website content management system with strong knowledge in navigation, SEO, and Google Analytics
  • Minimum one (1) year using Constant Contact and associated modules
  • Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite and design tools
  • Strong knowledge in the print the production process, pre-flight color and image requirements, and expediting proofs via Insight
